William Ormond, Mitchel (1914-VVVV).
Novelista y dramaturgo canadiense en lengua inglesa, nacido en Weyburn en 1914.
Viajó por Norteamérica y por Europa, y completó sus estudios en la Universidad de Alberta. Escribió relatos, obras dramáticas y artículos periodísticos, que fueron publicados en las revistas Maclean´s y The Atlantic Monthly. Entre 1949 y 1957 escribió capítulos para una serie de radio titulada: "Jake and the Kid", algunos de los cuales fueron reunidos en Jake and the Kid (1962).
Interesado por los temas de la muerte, la destrucción y los valores negativos, Mitchel es, en el fondo, un escritor cómico. Entre sus novelas, cabe destacar Who has seen the wind (1947), su novela más famosa; The kite (1962); The vanishing point (1973) y How I spent my summer holidays (1981).
En 1982 vio la luz la única colección de sus dramas titulada Dramatic W.O. Mitchel (1982), que contiene las siguientes piezas: The devil´s instrument, The black bonspiel of Wullie MacCrimmon, The kite, For those in peril on the sea y Back to Beulah.
