Litel, John (1892-1972).
Actor estadounidense, nacido el 30 de diciembre de 1892 en Albany (Wisconsin) y fallecido el 3 de febrero de 1972 en Woodland Hills (California), cuyo nombre completo es John Beach Litel.
Vida
Durante la Primera Guerra Mundial se alistó en el ejército francés y fue condecorado dos veces por su valor en combate. De regreso a los Estados Unidos, estudió interpretación en la American Academy of Dramatic Arts y realizó numerosas giras con algunos grupos de teatro, antes de debutar en el cine en 1929. Durante los años treinta formó parte de la llamada Warner Bros. Stock Company junto con otros actores como Ward Bond, Frank McHugh o Joan Blondell. Su físico le encasilló en papeles de duro, a menudo militar o policía. Entre sus mejores interpretaciones se encuentran el Harry McNamara de Pasión ciega (1940), una buena muestra del cine negro que firmó Raoul Walsh, y la del general Phil Sheridan en Murieron con las botas puestas (1941), el clásico del western dirigido también Walsh y protagonizado por Errol Flynn.
A lo largo de su prolífica carrera llegó a interpretar hasta doscientos papeles, en la mayoría de los casos secundarios. Entre lo más popular de su trayectoria en los años cuarenta destacaron las aventuras de Henry Aldrich, una serie de películas de serie B protagonizadas por la estrella juvenil Jimmy Lydon, en las que Litel interpreta al padre del protagonista.
Desde los primeros años cincuenta comenzó a ser un rostro habitual en televisión, medio en el que interpreta numerosos papeles en programas y series como My Hero (1952-53), Te quiero Lucy (1954), Maverick (1957), Colt 45 (1958), Trackdown (1958), The Restless Gun (1958), Cimarron City (1958), Se busca: vivo o muerto (1958), El Zorro (1958-59), Zane Grey Theater (1959), Cheyenne (1959), Bronco (1960), Stagecoach West (1960-61), Rawhide (1961), Have Gun Will Travel (1961), Perry Mason (1962), The Wide Countre (1962), Wagon Train (1964), Branded (1965) o El Virginiano (1965). En 1966 se retiró de la interpretación.
