Roberts, Sir Charles George Douglas (1860-1943).
Poeta y narrador canadiense en lengua inglesa, nacido en Douglas, New Brunswick, en 1860 y muerto en 1943.
Educado en la Universidad de New Brunswick, fue editor del periódico The Week en 1883. Trabajó como profesor de Literatura Inglesa en King´s College, Windsor, entre 1885 y 1895. Vivió en New York entre 1897 y 1907 y, posteriormente, en Londres. Regresó a Canadá en 1925, y pasó el resto de su vida en Toronto. Fue elegido miembro de la Royal Society de Canadá en 1890.
Como poeta y narrador, Roberts sobresale por sus magníficas dotes para la observación detallada y sus excelentes descripciones. En 1880 publicó una notable colección de poemas titulada Orion and other poems, influida por los románticos y por las leyendas y métricas griegas; le siguen In divers tones (1886); Songs of the common day (1893), colección de sonetos; New York nocturnes and other poems (1898); The book of the rose (1903); New poems (1919); The vagrant of time (1927), en la cual adopta técnicas modernistas; y Canada speaks of Britain and other poems of the war (1941), que contiene versos patrióticos. Además, publicó dos colecciones de su poesía tituladas Poems (1901) y Selected poems (1936).
Su primera historia sobre la vida de los animales, "Do seek their meat from God", fue publicada en Harper´s en 1892. Ésta más tres historias fueron reunidas en Earth´s Enigmas: a book of animal and nature life (1896); le siguen The watchers of the trails (1904), The house in the water (1908), Neighbours unknown (1911), Babes of the wild (1912), The feet of the furtive (1912), The secret trails (1914), Some animal stories (1921) y Further animal stories (1936).
