Lovejoy, Arthur Oncken (1873-1962).
Filósofo estadounidense de origen alemán. Nació en Berlín y murió en Baltimore. Fue profesor en la universidad de John Hopkins (Baltimore) y dirigió el Journal of the History of Ideas, órgano del History of the Ideas Club, fundado por él en 1923. Ejercieron gran influencia sus investigaciones historiográficas, así como sus Ensayos de historia de las ideas (1935). Pero también desarrolló su propio sistema filosófico que denominó "realismo temporalista": el problema del tiempo le asedió siempre, viendo en la temporalidad el carácter específico de la experiencia humana.
Sus obras principales son: The Revolt against Dualism (1930), Primitivism and Related Ideas in Antiquity (1935), The great Chain of Being (1936), On all Fronts (1941), Our Side is Right (1942), A World in the Making (1945), The Reason, the Understanding and Time (1961, Reflections on Human Nature (1961) y The Thirteen Pragmatisms (1963).
